The Production Supervisor is responsible for leading and coordinating daily manufacturing operations to ensure production goals, quality standards, safety requirements, and customer expectations are consistently met. This position provides leadership, training, and support to production employees while promoting a culture of continuous improvement, teamwork, and operational excellence.
Main Responsibilities
- Monitor production line operations to ensure compliance with company quality, safety, and productivity standards.
- Ensure daily production schedules and targets are achieved while maintaining quality expectations.
- Manage resource allocation, including workstation assignments, employee breaks, and shift rotations to maximize efficiency and achieve production objectives.
- Coordinate and manage production start-ups, shutdowns, and changeovers to minimize downtime and maintain workflow.
- Maintain appropriate staffing levels by monitoring employee attendance, vacation schedules, sick leave, and unexpected absences.
- Conduct shift meetings to communicate daily goals, production requirements, safety updates, and operational priorities.
- Train, coach, and develop employees to ensure they understand job duties, company policies, quality standards, and safety requirements.
- Conduct timely and effective employee performance reviews and provide ongoing feedback and coaching.
- Follow and enforce Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to ensure operational consistency and efficiency.
- Collaborate with the Production Manager to promptly address production issues, quality concerns, equipment problems, and safety matters.
- Recommend improvements to production processes, equipment, and quality systems to enhance efficiency, productivity, and product quality.
- Promote Lean Manufacturing principles and continuous improvement initiatives throughout the department.
- Foster a safe, clean, organized, and positive work environment that supports employee engagement and teamwork.
- Prepare and maintain daily production reports, including production output, quality metrics, downtime, and staffing information.
- Maintain compliance with all company policies, safety regulations, and applicable standards.
- Support company goals, objectives, and core values through daily leadership and decision-making.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Minimum of two (2) years of production leadership, team lead, or supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Demonstrated leadership, coaching, and employee development skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to effectively interact with employees at all levels of the organization.
- Strong organizational, time management, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and other business software applications.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of business, employee, and product information.
- Demonstrated initiative in identifying opportunities for improvement and implementing effective solutions.
- Ability to identify problems, determine root causes, and implement corrective actions using appropriate problem-solving methods.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Management, Business, or a related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Five (5) or more years of production leadership experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Formal Lean Manufacturing training and experience leading continuous improvement initiatives.
- Prior supervisory experience with responsibility for employee performance management and development.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, and/or sit for extended periods, including up to a 10-hour shift.
- Ability to frequently move throughout a manufacturing facility.
- Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 40 pounds, including awkwardly shaped materials or items.
- Ability to safely perform duties in a manufacturing environment, including exposure to noise, moving equipment, and varying temperatures.
